artist BIO

As a child she explored multiple art forms—performing in her children’s touring choir, writing and illustrating short stories, and playing piano at Carnegie Hall in high school. This love of varied creative expression fuels the heart of her work as a North Carolina fine artist.

After graduating from UNC-Chapel Hill in 2009 with a degree in Photojournalism, Courtney launched her own fine arts business. 10 years later, she’s still calling the shots and living a deeply fulfilling life of a creative soul.

Courtney began painting as a way to process her emotions after experiencing trauma. What started as art therapy for her personal healing transformed her professional career as a North Carolina artist.

Opening herself up to access a deeper well of her creative power literally saved her life and continues to serve a therapeutic purpose for Courtney. She believes art is a powerful tool that anyone can access at any time to transform their pain into meaning.

Courtney’s bold, intuitive fluid painting style celebrates radical self-acceptance. Painting reinforces her commitment to deep soul work. With each pour of acrylic paint she practices surrender and strengthens her connection to her instincts.

Courtney’s abstract paintings have been featured in art shows along the East Coast, and since May 2018 she’s showcased her work in five solo exhibitions in the North Carolina Triangle (Raleigh – Durham – Chapel Hill) where she lives. You can see more of Courtney’s work at her art studio at Horse & Buggy Press & Friends on Broad St. in Durham.

Since 2009 Courtney has photographed more than 150 weddings and provided her fine art portrait photography services for many beautiful souls. She’s also worked as a documentary photographer in Vietnam, Kenya, and the Amazon and earned awards with College Photographer of the Year, WPJA, WPPI, and the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops.

Though no longer a full-time wedding photographer, Courtney reserves limited dates each year for her LGBTQ wedding photography clients and fine art portrait photography clients.

In addition to being a working North Carolina artist with regular sales and exhibitions, Courtney is passionate about helping kids and adults alike tap into their creativity.

Courtney now works at her dream job teaching middle school art part-time at Durham Nativity School. Working with these 60 middle school boys has solidified her desire to dive deeper into art instruction as part of her calling.

Courtney also teaches her Fluid Painting Workshop to kids and adults throughout the Triangle. She wants to help anyone cultivate and celebrate their unique voice through this intuitive abstract painting style.

When not busy making paintings, photographing beautiful souls, or teaching art, you’ll probably find Courtney…

  • Rock-climbing, dancing, or biking
  • Chasing her dream to live on a houseboat with her boo
  • Giving/receiving tarot readings with my witchy friends
  • Snuggling her 2 kitties Calypso and Thorn

Courtney’s deepest joy is found in exploring (whether it’s new ideas, the world, or her own creativity) and connecting (with her community, her family, and her friends).

Also, the pelvis is her power symbol.
